The Marie Coeur Sailors' Street cross-stitch kit, based on a work by J.R. Morel, recreates the most authentic corner of a fishing village. The scene shows the stone façade of a sailor's house with its window featuring blue shutters worn by the salt, a blue enameled street sign that gives the painting its name, and a wooden yacht club sign hanging next to the frame. A yellow fisherman's raincoat hangs from a post, signal flags flutter on a string stretched from side to side, and at the foot of the wall rest a glass buoy, some fishing gear, and yellow flowers growing between the stones.
The design combines cross stitch, half cross stitch, and backstitch, a mix of techniques that is especially effective here: the backstitch draws the stretched ropes, the shutter slats, and the details of the sign with a finesse that cross stitch alone could not achieve. It is a perfect kit for embroidering a nautical-themed picture full of character, ideal for decorating a coastal home, a bathroom, or a nautical-inspired corner. At 40 x 30 cm, it looks great framed and is a very thoughtful gift for lovers of the sea, sailing, and fishing villages.
